Havelock Professional Learning
September 25, October 23 & December 04
Literacy K-5
Staff will attend sessions hosted by District Leads to identify student strengths, needs, and instructional priorities using available evidence. Developing a shared understanding of purposeful assessment practices will support teachers in using assessment not simply to measure learning, but as a tool to improve learning, inform instruction, and ensure that all students receive the support and opportunities they need to be successful.
These professional learning sessions will also support educators in developing a deeper understanding of text complexity and its role in literacy instruction. Participants will examine Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) data and other sources of evidence to identify student strengths, areas of need, and instructional priorities.
Focusing professional learning on current literacy assessment practices and progress monitoring will strengthen staff capacity to accurately identify student strengths, needs, and areas of growth. Teachers will develop greater confidence in using assessment data to inform instruction, provide targeted interventions, and monitor the effectiveness of their teaching. For students, this will result in more responsive instruction, timely support, and learning opportunities that are better aligned with their individual needs. Consistent assessment and progress monitoring practices will also support early identification of learning gaps and help ensure students make meaningful progress in literacy.
October 09, November 27 and January 04
Numeracy K-5
Staff will examine evidence of learning in numeracy and plan instructional responses that address student needs. These sessions will review progress and refine instructional practices based on student evidence. Later sessions will evaluate impact, reflect on student growth and determine next steps.
Professional learning will strengthen educators’ ability to use evidence to identify student strengths, needs, and instructional priorities, resulting in more responsive numeracy instruction. Students will benefit from targeted support and challenges that build confidence, engagement, and growth in mathematics.
