The following is a brief description of our planned professional learning work for April 17. This work is organized around our district’s collective goal:
All students shall be at grade level in numeracy.
Building Fraction and Decimal Number Sense We will: Address Misconceptions: Identify and target common student hurdles. High-Leverage Strategies: Practical tools to deepen conceptual understanding. K–3 Focus: Strengthening foundational fraction sense and early representations. Grades 4–5 Focus: Extending understanding to decimals and decimal operations. Includes grade-based breakout groups to ensure all material is relevant and immediately applicable to the classroom.
Collaborative teams (K-2, 3-5), will create math word problems for the 3rd term, with a focus on gradually increasing word count, steps required to solve the problem and specific number and operation outcomes reviewed or introduced. Increasing work stamina and independence must be key ingredients in formulating questions based on grade level and curriculum.
