The following is a brief description of our planned professional learning work for October 10. This work is organized around our district’s four collective goals:

  • All students shall read, write, and communicate at grade level in both languages of instruction.
  • All students shall be at grade level in numeracy.
  • All students and staff will feel safe, cared for, and engaged in learning.
  • All students shall graduate from high school.

School staff will monitor the impact of their work from October 10, and on subsequent professional learning days, in achieving these goals.

Literacy

  • Teaching Staff will be examining the writing curriculum for the purpose of documenting and sharing clear criteria for assessing writing K-2 and creating new common writing assessment exemplars for each reporting period. By calibrating these assessments, staff will be more efficient in identifying strengths and opportunities for student growth and identifying the appropriate enrichment and intervention needs.

Numeracy

  • Staff will identify opportunities to incorporate writing outcomes when designing problem-solving tasks.
  • Staff will focus on gradually increasing complexity to build persistence and independence.

Safe, Cared For, and Engaged

  • Staff will develop plans to reinforce responsibility and engagement through initiatives like Fun Fridays and catch-up routines.

Graduation

  • Staff will develop strategies to help students build perseverance and responsibility that they carry forward into future academic success.
